Fall of Senior year: gather applications from at least 5 graduate schools that interest you. Begin filling out applications & gathering letters of recommendation from faculty who know you well.
Spring of Senior year: Be sure to send in applications as early as possible, no later than the first of the new year. Most application deadlines are in February.
Additional note for those pursuing SLP programs: Once accepted, your Masters program will last approximately 2 years including internships. At the end of your program, you will have to take a national exam (Praxis Exam). After passing the exam, you will have to complete a 9 month paid apprenticeship called the Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY). You will then apply for your Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from ASHA and your state license from the state you are residing in (a few states do not have licensure at this time). Once you have received your CCCs and state license, you are ready to practice on your own. |
